01 / WHAT CHANGES

The mechanism

Nanosilver can oxidise and release Ag⁺ ions. In studies with bacteria, this release has been crucial to explaining the observed activity. Size, coating and the chemistry of the medium can modify dissolution: it is not simply a matter of contact with a particle.

02 / WHERE IT LEADS

An application, in context

This is an example for studying materials with antibacterial activity. Each formulation requires tests of efficacy, durability and release under actual conditions of use.
